Chikomborero Isabel Muvivi

My natural hair journey has been deeply personal filled with unlearning old narratives and embracing the beauty of my texture. Growing up, straight hair was seen as the standard, and natural hair was often misunderstood. Transitioning wasn’t easy, but it led me to a place of self-love and cultural pride.

As a hair stylist and founder of IzzyFro, I’ve seen firsthand that transitioning isn’t always easy. There’s emotional work involved, and every journey is different. That’s why I create a judgment free space where women and young girls can explore their relationship with their curls on their own terms. I meet every client where they are whether someone is natural, transitioning, or relaxed, I believe in honoring their choices and offering support without pressure. My goal is to make the journey feel less overwhelming and more empowering. I want young Black girls to grow up knowing their hair is beautiful and that they’ll always have safe, skilled hands to care for it without judgment.

I’m also deeply passionate about creating industry wide change. It’s important to me that more hairstylists are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to work with natural and Afro/textured hair. My vision is for young Black girls to walk into any salon and be catered to with care and without judgment. By advocating for inclusive training and encouraging diversity within the industry, we’re helping to shape a world where all hair types are embraced. Seeing salons where natural hair is understood, respected, and celebrated where young Black girls feel truly seen would be a powerful shift, and that’s the future I’m working toward.
