Who Would Want Your Hair?

“He said to me—in front of all my colleagues—‘Who would want your hair? It’s so frizzy!’”

I had no comeback. Not because I agreed, but because I didn’t expect such unfiltered honesty, spoken so publicly.

My cheeks flushed with embarrassment. What could I say?

I said nothing—but I did something. I began a journey. A journey to understand and reconnect with the texture of my own hair.

What I discovered transformed me.

I learned that the frizz he mocked was simply the result of my hair’s unique structure—a structure that thrives on moisture and care. I found that my coils love community: they twirl, twist, and tangle together like they’re at a lively reunion. I also uncovered a less joyful truth: many products on the market were filled with synthetic fillers and empty promises. They weren’t created for my hair—they were designed to fit into someone else’s mould of beauty.

So I created my own solution.

In 2015, one year after that incident, I launched Dzeani—a line of nourishing products made specifically for Afro-textured hair. Products that celebrate our curls, coils, and kinks rather than trying to tame them into submission.

But I soon realized that products alone weren’t enough. What so many of us also needed was knowledge—practical, empowering guidance on how to care for our natural crowns.

And so, in 2025, I wrote the Mini Manual for Caring for Afro-Textured Hair. A concise, no-nonsense guide to help others embrace their texture and walk in confidence.

So, back to that question: Who would want my hair?

I would. With both hands raised. Every. Single. Day.
